About

Named after Ebisu-ko, the celebration of Ebisu, god of business, this festival spreads from around Kofu Station into the central shopping streets. It started in the early Showa era, when the Kofu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kofu City Hall and the Kofu merchants' federation put on a big thank-you sale to revive shopping streets hit by recession; the first one, in 1929, was called the "All-Kofu Ebisu-ko Bargain Market." It resumed after the war and now takes place every November. On the day, stages go up downtown, stalls sell local food, and there are parades and a mikoshi procession.
