About
On an early summer night, Yanagihara Shrine in Odagawa, Nakada-machi, Nirasaki, hosts a firefly festival. The Odagawa area has been chosen as one of the Ministry of the Environment's 100 hometown villages for wildlife. Led by the Odagawa Firefly Protection Society, founded in 1986, residents have long used the fireflies to build ties between people and their community. On festival night you can watch the gentle glow of Genji fireflies, try making a firefly cage and browse the stalls. The venue is the open space in front of the shrine grounds along Route 141, and it goes ahead even if it rains. Note that you cannot park at Yanagihara Shrine on the day.
