About
Koromo Shrine's festival in Toyota spans a weekend in October: an eve festival on Saturday and the main day on the third Sunday. One of the leading festivals of the Mikawa region, it keeps alive the character of the old Koromo castle town and is said to have taken shape between the late Edo and early Meiji periods. On Saturday, each of eight floats is pulled around its own neighborhood, and that night residents of the eight districts walk lanterns around the shrine seven times to pray for a good harvest. On Sunday all eight floats assemble at the shrine; a fireworks blast sets them off, and they are hauled around through storms of paper confetti to cries of "Oisa!" Fireworks are offered from the Yahagi riverbank in the evening. The floats are tangible folk cultural properties of Aichi Prefecture and cultural properties of Toyota City.
