About

Held every June, this festival honours the Ichigami, the guardian deity of the Gojome Morning Market, a market said to have a 530-year tradition. The festivities run along the morning market street to the Fureaikan community hall, with a portable shrine offering, taiko drumming and a sumo tournament at Kosho-ji Temple among the many supporting events. The local chamber of commerce also takes part every year as a way to widen the circle of people connected to the area. In 2025, marking 530 years of the morning market, performances of folk arts from neighbouring towns and extra stalls were planned, with the opening ceremony at 9:00 and events scheduled to end around noon.
