About
On October 29, Uwatsuhiko Shrine in Uwajima holds its autumn festival. The sacred palanquin is carried through town along with ushioni bull-demons and other processional pieces, as a way of thanking the gods. Among them is the Yatsushika deer dance, a designated cultural property of Uwajima City, performed here as an offering. The shrine has a long history: when Date Hidemune, first lord of the Uwajima domain, laid out the castle town, he made it the domain's foremost shrine. The day before, October 28, shrine rites and the eve festival are held. There is no parking near the shrine, so if you come by car, plan where to park in advance.
