About
When the cherry trees bloom, Tsurugajo Park in Aizuwakamatsu becomes the stage for a festival that runs from April through the Golden Week holidays in May. The star attraction is the evening illumination, which lights up the entire castle site and about 1,000 cherry trees against the dark. Alongside it come Aizu Juraku Spring, a revival of the juraku that lord Gamo Ujisato set up in his castle town, a plant market, a spring market, rides on Japanese boats and stage events. The 2026 run was April 1 to May 6. The Aizu Festival Association posts each event's schedule online. From Aizuwakamatsu Station, ride the Haikara-san loop bus to Tsurugajo Iriguchi, then walk about five minutes.
