About
Over several days each summer, Gero Onsen holds its biggest festival, and every night has a different character. It begins with the Ryujin Fire Festival: five dragons and a bowl-shaped mikoshi carried by local men surge through flames, fireworks and firecrackers before converging on Shirasagi Bridge. Later nights bring a parade where mikoshi mix with samba dancers, yukata-clad folk dancing through town including the Gero Odori, and a thanksgiving for the hot springs. The main event is the Gero Onsen Fireworks Musical, with around 10,000 fireworks set to music over the Hida River. A summer music festival wraps things up.
