About
Every autumn, central Gifu City celebrates Oda Nobunaga, the warlord credited with building the city, in a festival that doubles as the city's industry and agriculture fair. The must-see is the mounted warriors' procession, in which Nobunaga, Saito Dosan and other Warring States figures ride through town alongside a corps carrying matchlock guns. Local groups add their own events around the city, so for 2 days the whole downtown feels festive. The main venues are the plaza at the north exit of JR Gifu Station and the Yanagase and Kandamachi areas. It is free to attend and 10 to 15 minutes on foot from JR and Meitetsu Gifu stations.
