About
Onishi, a part of Fujioka whose name includes the character for oni (demon), marks Setsubun in reverse. Where most of Japan throws beans to chase demons away, people here shout "Fortune in, and demons in too!" and invite in the oni driven out of everywhere else to celebrate with them. Held at the Omatsuri Hiroba square, it features bean-throwing, a prize lottery and a rock-paper-scissors tournament, and children who bring their own drawing of a demon get sweets while they last. The festival reached its thirty-first edition in 2026. There is no parking at the square itself, but temporary lots are set up. For questions, contact the Onishi Chamber of Commerce in Fujioka.
