About
During cherry blossom season, the Akagi Nanmen Senbonzakura in Maebashi holds this festival. One of Gunma's most famous blossom spots and named among Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Sites by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association, it draws crowds every spring. Somei-yoshino trees line about 1.3 kilometers of road, and at full bloom their branches meet overhead to form a tunnel. A market sells local food and specialties, and there are stage events. After dark the trees are lit, so an evening visit is worthwhile too. On festival weekends a sightseeing bus leaves JR Maebashi Station and loops to Gunma Flower Park Plus and the cherry trees. Dates can change depending on how the blossoms open.
