About

Every May, Fukuyama turns out for its roses. Wartime air raids destroyed much of the city center, and in the 1950s residents began planting roses in the parks to lift the damaged town and their own spirits. That effort, tied to a hope for peace, has carried on ever since and is why Fukuyama calls itself the City of Roses. The festival spreads across Midorimachi Park, Rose Park, Hanazono Park, Chuo Park and the downtown shopping streets, so you can drift from one garden to the next. The Rose Parade sets off at the Myohoji-mae intersection and finishes at Midorimachi Park. 2026 marked the festival's 59th year, and Rose Expo FUKUYAMA 2026 ran alongside it.
