About
On two evenings in autumn, about 5,000 bamboo lanterns light the area around Takehara's historic preservation district; 2026 marks its 22nd year. Old buildings are picked out by street-corner light art, an outdoor gallery displays all kinds of bamboo creations, and there's an Instagram photo contest plus live music at venues around the district. The lanterns glow from 17:00 to 21:00, and admission is free. It's roughly 15 minutes on foot from Takehara Station on the JR Kure Line. Takehara Elementary School's sports ground serves as a paid car park, but organizers ask visitors to use public transport if they can. The event is run by the Takehara Shokei no Michi executive committee.
