About
Hitachi, one of Ibaraki's best-known cherry blossom towns, holds this festival in early April; 2026 marked its 61st edition. The heart of it is the cherry-lined Heiwa-dori avenue, chosen as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom sites, with more venues at Kamine Park, Juo Panorama Park and the Hitachi Ginza Mall arcade. Throughout the festival, the trees on Heiwa-dori, in Kamine Park and at Juo Panorama Park are illuminated after dark. The busiest time is the main weekend, when a section of Heiwa-dori is closed to traffic during the day for stage shows and food stalls, and a float of Hitachi Furyumono, inscribed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, makes an appearance. There are four Furyumono floats in all, but only one is brought out for this festival.
