About
Every Golden Week, makers of Kasama ware gather in the pottery town of Kasama for this big ceramics fair. More than 200 Ibaraki potters and shops set up in Kasama Geijutsu no Mori Park, and you can browse everything from small sake cups and large jars to everyday dishes and unique one-off pieces, talking directly with the people who made them. It started in 1982, when 36 kilns gathered on a vacant lot in the Kasama art village around a handmade open-fire kiln, selling pottery and food. Buying straight from the makers proved popular, and 2026 marks its 45th edition. There are also exhibitions, clay play for kids, clay masks made by local elementary school pupils, live music on stage and an evening concert. Admission is charged, but high school age and younger get in free.
