About
Spread over two summer days, this is one of the biggest events on Hitachinaka's calendar. It opens with an evening fireworks show at the Ground Self-Defense Force's Camp Katsuta, fired by the pyrotechnic firm Nomura Hanabi. The following day is the main festival, when the streets of Omotemachi and Katsuta-chuo fill with a dance parade, floats and portable shrines. There is plenty more to see too: a tricycle race, open dance areas, events dreamed up by students and large-scale stage shows. The organising committee wants children to be the stars and go home smiling, which makes it an easy outing for families.
