About
Dokkoise Matsuri is Fukuchiyama's big summer dance festival, built around the Fukuchiyama Odori, a local dance with more than 400 years of history. Dancers form rings around the yagura tower, and everyone is welcome to join in, from seasoned dancers to complete beginners. In 2026 it was held on two days: on August 14 along Hirokoji-dori Street and in Goryo Park, with a children's event in the afternoon and a lighting ceremony and dancing in the evening, and on August 25 at the park by the north exit of Fukuchiyama Station, where a taiko drum performance by a local high school opened a dance for the whole city. Walk-in dancers are welcome, and free practice sessions are held beforehand.
