About

Every autumn, central Tsu hosts one of the biggest festivals in Mie Prefecture. It traces back to 1635, when Todo Takatsugu, the second lord of the Tsu domain, made it the festival of the local Hachiman shrine. Old folk arts such as the Tojin Odori, the Shagouma hobby-horse dance and the Hachiman lion dance share the streets with Takatora taiko, the boat-shaped float Anotsu-maru and the Anotsu Yosakoi teams that joined in 1998, mixing tradition with newer energy. Performances unfold at venues all over the city, including Oshiro-nishi Park and Phoenix-dori Avenue, drawing big crowds.
