About

Matsushiro, in Nagano City, holds this autumn festival to honor 250 years of wise rule by ten generations of the Sanada family over the Matsushiro domain. With the ruins of Matsushiro Castle at its heart, the whole former castle town takes on a festive air. The festival runs over a weekend, and on the final day comes its main draw, the Matsushiro Sanada Jumangoku procession, in which warriors march through the historic streets and bring the Sanada story to life. Paid seating is available for those who want a comfortable view of the procession, and municipal parking lots near the venue can be used. It is organized by an executive committee, with Nagano City and local tourism bodies as co-hosts.
