About
Tatsuta Taisha in Sango, a shrine to the wind gods, holds this festival as the equivalent of its grand annual festival and the most important rite of its year. After the ceremony the lively offerings begin: Yagyu Shinkage-ryu iai swordsmanship, sword dances of the Nihon Suika school, wind-god taiko, and Kawachi Ondo and folk dancing in the square before the hall to the singing of the Sanonkai group, open to anyone who wants to join. The finale is the wind-god fireworks, offered as a fiery feast for the deities, and visitors who wish can hold the handheld fireworks. In the week leading up, food is offered to the gods morning and evening, and the festival falls on the seventh day. A final rite at Gozagamine, where the wind gods are said to have come down, reports that all went well.
