About
Aikawa on Sado Island holds the Kozan (Mine) Festival each summer to thank the gold mine's workers and pray for the mines to prosper. It begins with rites at Oyamazumi Shrine, fondly known as the shrine of the mountain god, after which the whole town turns out for an okesa dance parade and a fireworks show in central Aikawa. It is one of Sado's three great festivals, the others being the Ryotsu Tanabata and river opening festival and the Ogi port festival. Events run from evening into the night, watching is free and there is parking. Aikawa is about 45 minutes by car from Ryotsu Port.
