About

Hita's big early-summer festival is timed to the opening of the sweetfish season and the start of cormorant fishing. On both nights, fireworks burst over the Mikuma River, around 10,000 of them over the two days. In the daytime, local elementary, junior high and high school students march and play in music and marching parades, and the Suigo Hita Dontaku Carnival fills the streets with dancing and song. A stage on the water hosts the Hangiri Genpei Gassen. Besides the riverside, venues include the JR Hita Station south plaza, Chuo Park and Patria Hita.
