About

Usuki's largest summer festival has been held since 1643. On the days the deity moves from Yasaka Shrine to its temporary abode and later returns, ritual processions and floats travel through town. Don't miss the spear-twirling ritual, unique to Usuki, that leads the sacred procession, and listen for how the music of the two floats differs. The festival lasts a little over a week, with the floats pulled out on the first evening and brought back in on the last. The festival centers on the crossroads between Yasaka Shrine and the temporary abode.
