About
When the plum garden behind the main hall of Domyoji Tenmangu reaches its peak, from February into March, the shrine holds its plum festival. Around 800 trees of some 80 red and white varieties grow there, planted to comfort the enshrined spirit, and they fill the air with scent before most other flowers open. The garden is one of Osaka's 100 selected green spots. During the festival there is an entry fee for the garden (300 yen for adults, free for junior high students and younger), and on set days you can see Michizane's belongings in the treasure hall, a bonsai plum show, haiku offerings, monkey performances and dedicatory music and martial arts. The annual Baikasai festival is also held on February 25.
