About
Every February 25 and 26, Kamimiya Tenmangu in Takatsuki holds its Tenjin Matsuri, timed to the anniversary of Sugawara no Michizane's death. Food stalls line the approach from the north exit of JR Takatsuki Station to the shrine, and crowds pack in. A stage north of the station runs until around 8 p.m., with Ise Daikagura traditional performances, Takatsuki taiko drumming and bands. Locals know the shrine fondly as "Tenjin-san," and being so close to the station, its late-winter fair is easy to drop in on.
