About

Kanda Shrine's summer festival in Kaizuka is said to have about 280 years of history. Seven taikodai drum floats, each with two drummers aboard, make their way through town to rousing calls, and their intricate carvings and trimmings reward a close look. In 2026 the eve is on July 18 and the main day on July 19, with the floats out from 13:00 to 17:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00 both days. On the eve night, the floats parade through the shopping street by Kaizuka Station, and around 21:00 they square off in "neriai" on the Sakai-Hannan prefectural road. On the main night they pass the station rotary, then hold neriai in front of Kanda Shrine and along Hama-dori.
