About
Imamiya Ebisu Shrine, home of Ebisu, the deity of business prosperity, holds its grand annual festival every year from January 9 to 11. January 9 is Yoi-Ebisu, January 10 Hon-Ebisu and January 11 Nokori-Ebisu, and as the year's first festival it draws worshippers from all over Kansai. People receive lucky bamboo branches from the fukumusume shrine maidens and hang on kitcho charms, bundles of tiny gold coins, rice bales, sea bream and other lucky symbols, to carry good fortune home. The Hoekago palanquin procession, which grew out of visits by geisha from the Minami district, and a sea bream offering from the Kizu market add to the color. Cooked offerings are prepared for the deity early in the morning over a hearth fire lit with flint.
