About
Takeo Onsen's autumn festival is held as the annual autumn rite of Takeo Shrine. On the main day, a procession of mounted archers, a tradition kept by the Takeo Yabusame Preservation Society, rides from the Yanami community center to the shrine; after the rite and a display run, the riders loose arrows at targets from horseback in front of the Takeo City Library and History Museum. The night before brings Eito, an evening parade between Amaku and the shrine, plus a citizens' tug-of-war, and a children's mikoshi makes the rounds of the neighborhood by day. The organizers point out that yabusame is a religious offering to the local guardian deity, not entertainment, and times and places can change depending on the weather and the progress of the rites.
