About
On the evening of October 8, the main hall of Zensuiji, one of the Three Temples of Konan, emerges from the dark in the light of more than a thousand lamps. The Sentoe is a prayer for wishes to come true; a Buddhist service takes place among the flames, and some years include a musical offering. Lamps are lit from 17:00 to 20:30. There is no temple admission charge that evening, and offering a lamp costs 500 yen. Zensuiji is in Iwane, around 20 minutes by bus from Kosei Station on the JR Kusatsu Line, or about 18 minutes by car from the Ryuo interchange of the Meishin Expressway, with parking for 30 cars.
