About

Shizuoka City's summer fireworks show lights up the Abe River riverbed near Tamachi 3-chome. It started there in 1953 as the Tokaido Fireworks Festival and was renamed later. Five school districts, Komagata, Shindori, Tamachi, Osada-kita and Osada-higashi, plan and run it themselves, making it a rare privately led display in Japan. In 2026, about 15,000 fireworks plus a drone show drew some 380,000 people. On the morning of the event, a memorial service is held before the memorial tower at the foot of Abekawa Bridge. Stormy weather means cancellation, with no postponement.
