About
Ishii adopted wisteria as its town flower, and each spring this festival invites visitors to enjoy it at local temples. The centerpiece is Jifukuji, where trellises carry both purple and white blooms; the purple vine is over 200 years old. Its trellis measures 30 meters north to south and 6 meters east to west, and at its peak, flower clusters close to a meter long hang from it. Dogakuji and Tokuzoji are also well known for wisteria, so it is easy to make a little temple tour. On weekends during the festival there are food stalls, and a wisteria walk is held (sign up in advance). Jifukuji is just steps from Ishii Station on the JR Tokushima Line.
