About
Shishikui Hachiman Shrine, the local guardian shrine of Shishikui in Kaiyo, holds this autumn festival. Its deity is Hondawake no Mikoto, and so many townspeople belong to its parish that it has long been held in especially high regard. These days the festival brings danjiri floats and sekibune boat floats out into the streets, and night stalls set up. According to old records, the annual rite once featured a sacred procession, horse racing and sumo, and people went door to door singing songs called mago-uta, though nobody knows how that began. From Shishikui Station on the Asa Kaigan Railway, the shrine is about 5 minutes on foot.
