About
Tatsue Hachiman Shrine in Komatsushima's Tatsue area celebrates its autumn grand festival across two days. The first night is the highlight: tatebi (fukizutsu) fireworks, designated an intangible cultural property by the prefecture, blaze alongside aerial fireworks. Before that, pupils of Tatsue Elementary School perform Gion festival music for the shrine, and there is an Urayasu dance and a neri-komi procession. Day two opens with the festival rite and another Urayasu dance, after which tea is served. In the afternoon come more Gion music, a children's mikoshi and the departure of the main mikoshi, plus a sweets toss and a parent-and-child tug of war. Tatsue and Awa-Akaishi stations on the JR Mugi Line are within walking distance.
