About
Takegashima Shrine on Takegashima in Kaiyo hosts what is said to be Tokushima's earliest summer festival each year. It is best known for its rough-and-tumble mikoshi, which bearers carry right into the sea, but in 2026 the mikoshi will be set in place rather than carried. The eve day brings night stalls, a children's mikoshi and a rice-cake scattering in the afternoon, and fireworks for the deity after dark. Prayers take place on the morning of the main day. For questions, contact the Kaiyo Tourism Association.
