About
Every year on Culture Day, November 3, Awa ningyo joruri puppet theater is staged on the Inukai Rural Stage at Goo Shrine in Hata-cho, Tokushima City; the stage itself is a nationally designated tangible folk cultural property. The Tomowaka-kai and Katsuura-za troupes perform pieces such as Shiki Sanbaso, two scenes from Keisei Awa no Naruto and the Amagasaki scene of Ehon Taikoki, and the Inukai stage preservation society ends the day with a fusuma karakuri display. Entry is free, you may come and go as you like, and rain does not stop it. By bus, ride a Tokushima city bus toward Gotaki from JR Tokushima Station and walk about 10 minutes; drivers can reach it in about 40 minutes from the station and park nearby.
