About
From early February to early March each year, Yushima Tenmangu, the shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, holds a plum blossom festival counted among Bunkyo's five great flower festivals. About 300 plum trees, most of them white, grow in the grounds. Stage performances such as Yushima Hakubai taiko take place on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and an outdoor tea ceremony is held on Sundays. A mikoshi procession, regional product fairs and a karaoke contest keep the grounds busy while the trees are in flower.
