About
Izu Oshima, known as an island of camellias, holds its biggest festival from winter into spring. The main stage is Oshima Park, certified as an International Camellia Garden of Excellence, where a camellia grove shows off many varieties, including the rare yellow-flowered Camellia chrysantha. Events include an opening ceremony and an Edo-style mikoshi parade, the Camellia Marathon and the announcement of Miss Oshima, plus workshops for dyeing with camellia petals and a camellia festival photo contest. The general information center, which doubles as the main venue, is at the Camellia Plaza in Oshima Park.
