About
Each year Sekigane in Kurayoshi remembers Lord Satomi Tadayoshi and his retainers, who ended their days here. Tadayoshi had been lord of Tateyama Castle in Awa Province, but power struggles inside the shogunate saw him moved to Hoki Province (today's Kurayoshi), and tradition holds that he died at Sekigane with eight loyal followers, his hopes unfulfilled. The festival program features kabuki by children from Sekigane's elementary schools, dramatic readings of Satomi clan tales, and local taiko drumming. Don't miss the costume procession held alongside it: warriors in handmade armor playing Tadayoshi and the Eight Dog Warriors set out after a memorial service at Daigakuin, the family temple, and march through central Kurayoshi, past the white-walled storehouses, on their way toward Sekigane, where the lord died.
