About

In Kurobe's Ikuji district, fishermen hold this festival to ask the sea gods for rich catches and accident-free voyages. While Ikuji's regular shrine festival is held at another shrine, the Ebisu festival revolves around the Nishinomiya shrine on Amidado Beach, which is dedicated to Ebisu. At night the statues of Ebisu and Daikoku that usually stay in the shrine are placed on fishing boats dressed in banners and flags, which leave Kurobe fishing port at around 19:00 and spend about 60 minutes circling the waters off Ikuji. Afterward, children from Ikuji Elementary School set lanterns brought from home afloat, scattering points of light across the dark sea. The Kurobe Ikujihama fireworks display also takes place during the festival, with about 1,500 shells.
