About
Toide, a district of Takaoka, holds its Tanabata festival with care to match the actual seasonal festival day. Here, July 7 is a festival day for boys, and since the Meiji era households with sons have made Tanabata decorations to wish for their healthy growth. Roughly 500 decorations hang over the streets to form a "Tanabata tunnel," and after dark, with the lanterns lit, it becomes so magical that some call it the most beautiful Tanabata festival in Japan. The sixty-first festival was held in 2026. It is about five minutes on foot from Toide Station on the JR Johana Line, which connects with the Hokuriku Shinkansen at Shin-Takaoka.
