About
When firefly squid are in season, Namerikawa devotes a whole spring day to eating them. The festival takes over the Hotaruika Museum and the surrounding area. The program is delightfully odd: a boiled firefly squid eating contest, firefly squid scooping, and a contest to see who can flick a squid eyeball the farthest. In the tent village you can try firefly squid dishes such as tempura, and food trucks join in, including ones selling dondon-yaki, Namerikawa's soul food. Stage acts include shamisen playing for the Hotaruika Ondo.
