About
This festival takes place on Children's Day at the Minami Kiyosato roadside station in Nagasawa, Takane-cho, Hokuto. For about a month each year, from early April to early May, 400 colorful carp streamers swim above the station, flapping in the wind against the blue sky. On festival day, May 5, there are events where you wade into rice paddies to grab carp and trout by hand or race canoes through the mud, and kids and grown-ups alike end up covered in mud. If you just want to see the streamers, you can come any time during the display period.
