About
Takataki Shrine in Ichihara, worshipped for blessings of children and good marriages, holds a spring festival known as the Bride Festival. Brides who have married into families of the shrine's parish that year walk to the shrine with their grooms in traditional Japanese wedding dress, reporting the marriage to the local deity and praying for children and a peaceful home. Because the shrine is also thought to protect children as they grow, the same day features a procession of children dressed in Heian-period costume. These two colorful processions attract plenty of spectators from Ichihara and beyond. The shrine is about a 7-minute walk from Takataki Station on the Kominato Railway.
