About
Kashiwa Matsuri, one of the biggest festivals in the area, spreads stage shows, Kashiwa Odori dancing, mikoshi and food stalls across the streets around Kashiwa Station. It traces back to 1969, when Awa Odori dancers from Tokushima were invited to perform in front of the station. After a period as a merchants' festival, the current Kashiwa Matsuri began in 1978 as a hometown celebration with wide resident participation. In 2025 it drew about 730,000 people over 2 days. For many years it was held in late July, but to protect participants from record-breaking heat, it moved to autumn from 2026 and now runs from the afternoon. A yearly highlight is the Kashiwa Odori circle dance.
