About

On August 4 and 5 every year, the area around Yaegaki Shrine in Sosa hosts a summer festival in which about 20 mikoshi, along with their musicians, turn out from 10 neighborhoods. They are carried in a style peculiar to this area, to flute and drum music and the chant "anryaa doshita," and the bearers get drenched with cold water, a scene unique to this festival. On the first evening, 10 mikoshi carried only by women come out from the neighborhoods. On the second day, the joint procession leaves Yokaichiba Elementary School at noon and winds through town, growing more fervent the closer it gets to the shrine.
