About
Each summer Echizen Fishing Port hosts the earliest fireworks show in Fukui Prefecture to exceed 10,000 shells, which makes it the event that opens summer on the Echizen coast. The shells go up from the sea, and with mountains rising right behind the port, every burst rolls back off the slopes; the setting between water and hills is what gives the show its punch. On the same day the Echizen Town Tourism Federation offers a boat outing where you can fish and then watch the fireworks from the water. Entry is free, but seats and parking cost extra. The show is run by a local executive committee and moves to the next day if the weather is stormy.
