About

On a Sunday in May, the Imajo area of Minamiechizen celebrates soba, its signature noodles. The setting is Imajo-juku, an old post town protected as a national Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, so you eat among historic streets. Local communities and groups each run their own stand, which makes comparing their noodles the main event, and other stalls sell local products. A bowl is 500 yen, and quantities are limited, so stands close when they run out. You cannot drive into the venue; park at a designated lot such as the Imajo Community Center and ride the shuttle bus. The grounds extend around Imajo Station, so arriving by train is easy.
