About
On a weekend in late October or early November, the Kuzuryu National Recreation Area beside Lake Kuzuryu in Ono holds an autumn festival right in the middle of the foliage; the lake and the surrounding Izumi area are known for especially vivid color. The autumn leaves market offers handmade soba, Kuzuryu maitake mushrooms and other seasonal produce, plus Ono dishes and sweets, and food trucks pull up too. Iwakura in Aichi, Ono's friendship city, sends Nagoya Cochin chicken for a limited run of hotpots based on Iwakura's hikizuri sukiyaki with local maitake and taro. Add stage dance and taiko, a bingo game for local products, woodworking and other hands-on corners, festival games, fossil digging at the HOROSSA! center and tours of the Yugami power station. Extra trains run on the JR Etsumi-hoku Line, and a free shuttle bus leaves from Kuzuryuko Station.
