About
On an autumn evening, the old port of Mikuni Minato, which prospered as a stop for the Kitamaebune merchant ships, comes alive with a dance procession. To the shamisen and flute of Mikuni-bushi, the town's traditional banquet song, dancers make their way through streets that still keep the feel of those days. They set off from Mikaeri Bridge and split into two routes, one toward the street outside Mikuni Station and the other toward the Mikuni branch of the Sakai City Chamber of Commerce. The name obi-no-machi, sash town, comes from a Mikuni-bushi verse describing the long, slender port as being about as wide as a kimono sash. Nearby roads close to traffic while the dancers pass, and if it rains the event is held the next day. Drivers should use the Naritasan parking lot; inquiries go to the Mikuni Kaisho association.
