About
For 52 days from February 11 to April 3, homes and shops in Yanagawa hang up sagemon for the Doll Festival. Sagemon are strings of lucky cloth ornaments hung beside the doll display for a girl's first Doll Festival, each piece hand-sewn by relatives and grandmothers wishing her a healthy, happy life. This walking event lets you see the Edo-period custom all over town. Along the way there are lantern-lit shopping streets, a boat parade gliding beneath sagemon strung over the water, and a ceremony in which children float paper wishes down the canals, events that only a canal town could stage.
