About

Miwa Shrine in Ibigawa holds its festival on May 4 and 5, with a rehearsal day on May 4 and the main day on May 5. It is said to have begun in the Kyoho era of the Edo period, so it has run for more than 300 years. Along with a lively portable-shrine procession, five decorated floats called geiyama are pulled into the shrine grounds and lined up. The big draw is the children's kabuki staged on the floats, which gathers a crowd every year. The festival spreads across the area around the shrine. By car, allow about 30 minutes from the Ogaki-nishi interchange on the Tokai-Kanjo Expressway; inquiries go to the Ibigawa Town Tourism Plaza.
